How to play Phone Numble
Guess the hidden phone number in eight tries. It is a 10-digit number in US format, XXX-XXX-XXXX. The first three digits are always a real US area code, and every digit from 0 to 9 can appear, including more than once.
The basics
- 1 Type any 10 digits on the keypad or your keyboard, then press Enter. The dashes are added for you.
- 2 The first three digits are always a real US area code, like 212 for New York or 415 for San Francisco. The next three never start with 0 or 1.
- 3 Each digit turns green, yellow or grey to show how close it is.
- 4 Use those clues to narrow down the next guess. You have eight guesses in total.
- 5 Daily gives everyone the same number each day. Unlimited deals a new one as soon as you finish.
Reading the colours
Repeated digits
Phone numbers repeat digits all the time. If the answer has one 5 and you guess three, only one of your 5s lights up: green if it is in the right spot, otherwise yellow on the first one. The extra 5s stay grey.
Tips
- Crack the area code first. Once you know a digit or two, only a handful of real US area codes will fit.
- Start with a guess that uses many different digits, like 012-345-6789, to see which digits are in play.
- Lock in your greens and move each yellow to a new slot on the next guess.
- Remember that most phone numbers repeat at least one digit. A green digit can show up again somewhere else.
- Watch the keypad. Grey keys are out, so you never have to type them again.
About the game
Phone Numble takes the colour clues of Wordle and applies them to a phone number. Ten digits instead of five letters, eight guesses instead of six, and no dictionary to lean on: every digit is a fresh deduction.
Play the Daily number, the same for everyone and new every midnight, or switch to Unlimited and dial as many rounds as you like. Turn on Hard mode in Settings if you want every clue to count.
FAQ

Eight. That is two more than Wordle because there are twice as many digits to find.

In Hard mode every green digit must stay in place, and every yellow digit must be used in your next guess. You can switch it on in Settings before you start a round.
